ADHD and ADT make uncomfortable bedfellows
ADHD and ADT make uncomfortable bedfellows. I had to look up what the acronyms stand for, and ADT was the biggest surprise. Of course the first is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. But ADT is the American District Telegraph company that has evolved into the world’s biggest provider of security systems.
Somehow our lives have become incomplete if we don’t have both: insecurity and security, simultaneously.
We have a picture in our minds of a person with ADHD starting at their phone in the dark, scrolling as the light from the screen drills a hole in their consciousness. They stand to pace the floor, afraid of what the next day will bring. That’s fear of the future at 3am.
Elsewhere, a security guard stares at a row of television monitors. On the screens is nothing in particular, just street corners and junctions waiting for disaster. The chances are that the criminal has ADHD and the victim has ADT. But is it really that way?
Somewhere out there, there’s a crime boss who has way more sophisticated security than his victims. He lives in fear.
Somewhere out there, there’s a little guy with ADHD who keeps taking online quizzes to find out why he can’t complete his daily tasks. His motor is nearly burnt out. He really needs a break in December. #fringetheartist
