After New Year it’s back to the rat race.

After New Year it’s back to the rat race. But what exactly is a rat race? It makes one think of little grey vermin scuttling around in a cardboard box, while terrible humans eagerly observe which one gets to the carrot first.

The mindless ambition of hungry rats stands for the most depressingly poor organisational traits of humans, given our eternal mal-administration.

That’s why people on holiday say they dread returning to the pressure of regulation. They now know that meal times and bed times don’t have to resemble something out of a novel by Charles Dickens. Once a quarter they have a taste of freedom, and it’s a love story.

Society used to be compared to a sausage factory. Everyone had to come out in regulation conformity. One shape one size.

Remember the song Who Let the Dogs Out? As far as pop goes it’s right up there with the Sex Pistols singing God Save the Queen (1977). I don’t think popular culture ever recovered from Punk. It just kind of shrugged its shoulders and moved on, leaving that chapter in human history for further scrutiny, once all the other crises have subsided. #fringetheartist
