Walk don’t Run was the anthem of my childhood
Walk don’t Run was the anthem of my childhood. I was 25 years late in arriving at it, which wasn’t my choice since the unborn don’t tend to spin many disks…
We had the vinyl of The Ventures’ big hit on an old turntable from my uncle. It became a sort of addiction, until my dad chucked out the whole setup and I got straight into Pink Floyd on disk. Apparently CDs will never come back into fashion like vinyls have, because they’re part of a latter day disposable culture that moved beyond sound and packaging as high art.
I can only thank the Lord I bypassed Elton & Co, because I was always a gritty guitar guy and not a piano man. I don’t think they are mutually exclusive, but soaring guitar solos gave me an existential jolt.
And now I’m a coffee guy. Moderate yet committed. But I maintain my respect for tea people. Their lives always seem so organised — green tea in the morning and chamomile before bed. They stroll with their loved ones at sunset. I’ll bet you their kids are never late for school.
I don’t want to play into any harmful stereotypes, so I stick to tea and coffee, to bypass war and peace.
