The world’s biggest chocolate

The world’s biggest chocolate was really just an AI bit of nonsense. Yesterday the romantics on Planet Love had the choice to accept a 36-metre heart-shaped choccie on a road somewhere in America — or reject it outright as a piece of made up digital fluff on Facebook.

It was a viral AI Valentine’s Day joke of course, that had a whole American neighbourhood feasting madly on a deliciously dark brown sea of sweet nothingness. I was totally taken in until I read that Valentine’s is now considered as ridiculous as April Fool’s Day in terms of the opportunities it has given AI amateurs to create a world of fake interactions. We now have to tolerate a host of hateful celebrities all falling in love with one another in AI reels.

Not that I take Valentine’s Day too seriously. And I reckon eating a giant chocolate off a road with another thousand people sounds pretty yuck — Guinness world record or not. But there’s something horribly lame about taking these hugely boring symbols in popular culture and trying that hard to make them into earth shattering moments.

At least the idea of convincing people that the moon landing was faked, by claiming it was a fake video of a fake moon landing, directed by Stanley Kubrick, was mind-bogglingly brilliant in its chutzpah and complexity.

But that was what jerked people off in the decade from ‘68 to ‘78, when things were changing pretty quickly. These days things are changing even faster, and fake love is not exactly earth shattering — so why bother?
