Generally that’s what the act of living amounts to: unfinished business. And that’s how we like it. Primarily because the opposite means the end of a life. So let’s keep trucking.

Art is always about the present. It’s about the moment in which it was born — a moment that will never come round again. 

Every moment is a decision about which superhero one wants to be. One of my children actually had to write a school essay titled ‘My Superpower’. As a parent I wanted her to be humble and nice - but she wanted to be outrageous and mean. I really felt I had failed, as a parent.

Talk about the future and everyone gets nervous. Talk about the past and everyone gets nostalgic. Why is it beginning to feel like the past is a lie, and the future is a lie that hasn’t yet happened?

I want to be an honest artist. That’s not to say that everything I do should be a mistake. Although it happens. I’m not perfect, but I am a perfectionist.
