Welcome to the electronic age which actually started in 1946 — that’s exactly 80 years back. Let’s buy a cake and celebrate the first computer, that was probably the size of a big house. It weighed 30 tons, cost 7-million dollars and used 18,000 vacuum tubes. 

That’s not your average desktop Apple with a fashionable a lime-green back and a muted mint-green front. As the pamphlet says.

The first computer was called the Eniac or Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer which wasn’t a very sexy name. It definitely didn’t have dating apps, so serial killers had to actually go out and meet real people, instead of getting online to see who to torture.

We grew up with serial killer movies, where the evil perpetrator skulked down city alleys, or passages in dark houses. His silhouette freaked you out, as he pounced on his prey. These days you have to be content to watch a murderer scrolling, while tense music plays. Pretty numbing.

We live in a world where electronic devices keep getting smaller and bigger, then smaller again. I think I’ll write a movie called Honey, I Shrunk the Power Bank.
