If I had a punk band I’d call it Deep Vein Thrombosis.
If I had a punk band I’d call it Deep Vein Thrombosis. It’s got echoes of Deep Purple but, also, it reflects on the feelings of inadequacy we all develop around the breakdown of the body, as we grow older.
What’s more, the word thrombosis sounds like the painful beat of a punk rocker’s drum.
The point of fantasising that one is the leader of a punk outfit, is that you key into a part of your personality that equals rebellion with success. Johnny Rotten actually said that he got his creative spirit from his anger, and he got his anger from the state of the world, and his place in it, before he found fame.
“Anger is energy," Johnny Rotten said, if I remember correctly. In the end he claimed to be using that energy to encourage creative expression and positive change, and not violence. But that’s the myth behind the man.
So, Johnny went from having his glass half empty, to believing it was half full. Even as one of the world’s most rebellious youths, he found a way to learn by undoing his dogmas, and from the half-assed downfall of a generation he encouraged to rebel.
There’s no way you can fill a glass that is already full. Only stupid people think they know everything. Learn from Johnny Rotten - that above the noise of time, there are lessons to be learned.
